JUST-IN: The Uganda Police are hunting down Mbarara born Kakuru Abel, a driver by profession who has gone into hiding for allegedly aiding the stay of gay people in Kampala, the capital city of Uganda. Through our investigative journalists, it has been revealed that Abel has been involved in helping gay people to escape being punished in rural areas of the country.
Kakuru Abel, who moved from Mbarara to Kampala for un known business, he often provided transportation services without knowing the full background of his passengers. During a routine checkpoint at Nakasongola, he was caught with five individuals fleeing from Anaka village in Gulu. according to sources they dont know how he managed to escape the police according to sources to proceed, authorities soon became aware that he was among people promoting homosexuality in uganda
On February 8, 2023, Kakuru was arrested by Kawempe police and released on bond shortly after as seen in the attached picture below.
The arrest drew attention to his activities, and his truck was subsequently set on fire, forcing him into hiding in Kakiri with the help of a local charcoal seller whose identity is private.
A police spokesperson from Kawempe police station confirmed Kakuru’s arrest and provided further details.
“Kakuru Abel was apprehended on suspicion of aiding individuals involved in activities deemed illegal under Ugandan law,” the spokesman said. “He was released on bond as investigations continued. However, his current whereabouts are unknown, and he remains a person of interest.” The police spokesperson said.
