The government of Uganda today, February 8, 2022, released an official burial program for the fallen Iteso paramount chief, his Highness, Emorimor papa Iteso Augustine Osuban Lemukol, who died on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at Mulago National Referral Hospital.
“Upon hearing the sad news, the president of the Republic of Uganda, his excellency, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, expressed his condolences to his Highness’ family, the people of Teso, and the entire country on the unexpected loss of this great leader.” “His excellency, the president, directed that papa Augustine Osuban Lemukol be given an official burial,” the minister stated in a statement.
“Since then, the Ugandan government has been working closely with the family and the Iteso cultural union to give the deceased Teso cultural leader, papa Augustine Osuban Lemukol, a fitting send-off,” she adds.
The advanced stages and funeral program are as follows: on Tuesday, February 15th, 2022, a requiem mass will be held at Namugongo Catholic shrine at 10:00 am, followed by a procession to his family residence in Entebbe at 6:00 PM for a vigil.
On Wednesday, February 16, the body will leave for Tororo at 6:00 a.m., followed by a Mass and pay of respects in Tororo at 11:00 a.m., a 2:00 a.m. departure for Soroti, and a 6:00 p.m. vigil Mass at Madera Catholic Parish in Soroti city.
On Thursday, February 17, 2022, cultural and religious leaders, as well as Ecumenical leaders, will pay tributes at Soroti Sports Ground at 10:00 a.m., before the body departs for Serere at 4:00 p.m. for Vigil Mass at Olio Catholic Church Serere TC.
The body of Emorimor papa Iteso Augustine Osuban will be laid to rest at Serere District Headquarters in Teso at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 18, 2022, for tribute by district Local Governments before being taken to his home at 7:00 p.m. for Mass and a vigil.
The Burial Ceremony will then take place on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at his ancestral home in the Serere district.
